Numeric Vibration
The numerical vibration is, in numerology, the energetic quality attributed to each number. The theory posits that each digit from 1 to 9, as well as the master numbers 11, 22, 33, carries a distinct vibration that colors everything related to it.
Origin and etymology
The concept of vibration applied to numbers appeared at the end of the 19th century in the theosophical writings of Helena Blavatsky (The Secret Doctrine, 1888) and in the American New Thought movement. Mrs. L. Dow Balliett titled her 1908 work Number Vibration, explicitly establishing the notion. The idea combines the Pythagorean doctrine of numbers-as-principles, the scientific analogy with the vibratory phenomena discovered in the 19th century (acoustics, electromagnetism), and the occult legacy of correspondences. Vibration does not designate a measurable physical vibration, but an essential quality attributed by symbolic convention.
Evolution and tradition
Each number receives a vibration codified by tradition. 1: initiative, leadership, autonomy. 2: cooperation, sensitivity, duality. 3: creativity, expression, joy. 4: structure, work, stability. 5: freedom, change, communication. 6: harmony, home, responsibility. 7: inquiry, inwardness, analysis. 8: power, abundance, justice. 9: altruism, completion, universality. The master numbers carry intensified vibrations: 11 vision, 22 large-scale realization, 33 compassionate service. This grid has been broadly stable since Juno Jordan (1965), even though each author nuances it.
Practical use
Numerological analysis consists of identifying the dominant vibrations in a person's chart: life path, expression number, personal year. The vibration of the life path is generally presented as the main existential climate. The personal year brings a cyclical coloration. On Tarotoui, each numerological calculation is accompanied by an interpretation entry for the associated vibration. Many practitioners also use vibration to choose an event date (wedding, project launch) or to evaluate a brand name.
Going further
The word vibration in this context is metaphorical, not physical. No device measures the vibration of a number. Confusing numerological vibration with energy in the physical sense is a common but inaccurate simplification. Note also that the lists of attributed qualities vary slightly from author to author, which reveals their conventional nature. Numerology remains a symbolic grid, not a science.
